What can I hope to gain from the therapy process?
Regardless of why you are coming in, we will learn skills that can help you address your concerns. My approach is not merely symptom reduction, but rather for you to internalize the concepts we discuss so that you can feel empowered to be your own therapist when navigating life difficulties.
Is there anything I can do outside of session to help my progress?
Absolutely! Once we have defined what our therapy goals are, I will typically assign you exercises to do outside of session to practice the skills you are learning. The amount that you are willing to invest in this outside work is crucial in determining your progress towards meeting your goals.
What can I expect from my first therapy session?
In the first session, the “intake”, we will discuss why you are coming to therapy. I will ask a lot of questions related to any specific areas of concern. In addition, we will explore other important areas such as your mental health history, your family, and your developmental history. I will also be able to address any questions or concerns about the process that you might have.
How long will therapy take?
That is an excellent question, and one of the most difficult to answer! It really depends on a combination of your particular therapy goals, the extent of the presenting issues, and the amount you are willing to invest in the process. As such, some issues can be addressed in several weeks, some in several months, and others can take multiple years. From the beginning of the therapy process I can give you a general sense of how long it might take. I do not believe that therapy needs to be a lifelong pursuit. My approach is very goal oriented, so that if you are achieving your goals then you will know when you are ready to leave.
Do you accept insurance?
While I do not work in network with insurance companies, I am happy to assist you in obtaining out of network coverage if your insurance provides. If you qualify for a clinical diagnosis, I will send you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company.
